Discrimination
We offer specialist advice in discrimination law to all residents of Derbyshire and, depending on individual circumstances, to surrounding areas as well.
We advise individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination, victimisation or harassment on the grounds of protected characteristics. Examples of protected characteristics are: Age, Disability, Pregnancy and Maternity, Race, Religion of Belief, Sex and Sexual Orientation. The level of advice we can provide depends on the issue.
We have a Legal Aid contract in discrimination and so if you are eligible for legal aid we may be able to help you free of charge.
If you have legal expenses insurance you may be able to make a claim and cover our costs that way. View the video below:

We advise on:
- Employment
- Housing and homelessness
- Goods and services
What we Don't Do
We don’t advise:
- Perpetrators, landlords, service providers and employers.
- Trade union members. If you are a member of a trade union you should seek advice directly from them before contacting us.
Who will work on my case?
We currently have 1 solicitor and 12 trainee solicitors in the Employment and Discrimination Unit.
Gary Steel is a Solicitor and Area of Law Supervisor. He has experience of advising in Employment and Discrimination law and representing clients at the Employment Tribunal. Fozia Sultana is a Second Year trainee and will qualify in April 2027. Sammera Parveen is a First Year trainee and will qualify in June 2028
