Derbyshire County Council is proposing cuts to discretionary funding. This means that key community groups and local charities like the Derbyshire Law Centre are at risk of underfunding.
Derbyshire Law Centre currently receives £60,524 to provide specialist legal advice throughout the county and £29,600 to provide specialist employment advice services to cover Derbyshire Dales, Amber Valley, Erewash and South Derbyshire. The proposal is to cease this funding from March 2025.
These fund enable us to have stability and helps to fund our core service. With it we can attract additional restricted funds and employ specialist case workers and solicitors to provide free legal advice in housing, employment, debt, discrimination and immigration law across Derbyshire.
Without this core funding it will be very difficult for us to attract more funding and continue to run free employment advice in the south of the County. It will have a detrimental impact for the hundreds of people we support.
Help us have our voice heard!
The Derbyshire County Council is running a consultation on the cuts until the 20th August 2024. The consultation is open to anyone who lives in Derbyshire. If we have any chance of changing their mind we need as many people as possible to complete the consultation.
